Built for field sales + event teams

Business card scanning that lands cleanly in the CRM, without HubSpot's add-on gauntlet.

HubSpot does not ship a native business card scanner. The common path is a third-party scanner app, a manual export, and a HubSpot import, which is exactly the friction that keeps event leads sitting on a desk for weeks. Strkr scans directly into the CRM with structured capture, dedupe, and routing on day one.

What this audience is actually dealing with

The pains that bring buyers here.

Trade shows and field meetings still run on business cards for a reason: a 30-second card exchange is faster than typing a contact into a phone or an app. The problem is what happens after. Field reps collect 40 to 120 cards at a conference, stuff them in a jacket pocket, hand them to a sales assistant on Monday, and watch the leads age for 10 days while the assistant manually types each one into HubSpot. The leads that mattered have already called a competitor by then. HubSpot does not ship a native scanner. The ecosystem offers CamCard, ScanBizCards, Haystack, and a dozen other third-party apps, each with its own export flow, its own subscription, and its own data-cleanup gap. The rep who scans a card into CamCard then has to export, open the CSV in Excel, clean it, and import to HubSpot. The capture that was supposed to be a 30-second interaction becomes a 20-minute workflow per batch, and the lead-aging problem does not get solved.

HubSpot ships no native scanner

The CRM you pay 1,200 dollars per user per year for cannot read a card.

HubSpot Sales Hub Pro and Enterprise do not include a native business card scanner. The HubSpot mobile app can capture a photo and attach it to a contact; it does not parse the card into structured fields. For the structured parse, HubSpot customers reach for CamCard, ScanBizCards, Haystack, or similar third-party apps, each a separate subscription and a separate workflow. Strkr ships structured card scanning as a native mobile feature on the paid tier.

The export-import tax

Scanner app to CSV to HubSpot takes 20 minutes a batch.

A field rep scans 40 cards at a trade show into CamCard. The export produces a CSV with fields that do not match HubSpot field names. The sales assistant opens the CSV, maps columns, flags duplicates, cleans data, and uploads. Twenty minutes a batch at best, and that is before any of the leads get routed to a rep for follow-up. Strkr captures directly into the live CRM record with field mapping already correct.

Dedupe is manual

The same contact enters HubSpot three times.

A rep scans a card from a prospect who already exists in HubSpot. The third-party scanner has no awareness of the CRM state and creates a new contact on import. HubSpot's native dedupe helps but requires manual review on the merge. A booth that gets scanned by two reps produces a duplicate without the two reps knowing. Strkr's scanner checks the live CRM at scan time, surfaces the match, and prompts update-vs-create before the rep moves on.

No routing on scan

Scanned leads sit in a bulk import, unassigned.

A trade show import drops 400 leads into HubSpot with no owner. The sales manager still has to run routing (territory, industry, size, round-robin) after the fact. If the leads sit unassigned for a weekend, the fast ones go to a competitor. Strkr applies routing rules at the moment of capture so each scanned card already carries an owner, an SLA clock, and a sequence enrollment by the time the rep walks to the next booth.

Enrichment lags

The card has a name and a title; everything else is missing.

A business card gives you a name, a title, a company, a phone, an email. The rep still needs the company size, the funding stage, the technology stack, the industry classification to prioritize follow-up. Scanner apps do not enrich; HubSpot's Breeze Intelligence meters past a floor and does not apply at scan time. Strkr enriches on scan via the firmographic data provider pipeline, so the lead arrives on the rep's dashboard already briefed.

Follow-up delay

The rep means to call Monday and remembers Thursday.

The structural problem a scanner should solve is time-to-first-touch after a trade show. If the leads arrive in HubSpot by Wednesday and the rep sees them Thursday, the followup is already 72 hours stale and most trade show leads do not survive that. Strkr's scanner triggers an immediate follow-up sequence (confirmation email, calendar invite, next-touch task) at the moment of scan so the first touch happens inside the hour.

How Strkr's native scanner works

Scan to CRM record in under 30 seconds.

The capture flow is the thing. If scanning a card takes longer than typing it manually, nobody uses the scanner and the problem stays. Strkr's scanner is built around the trade-show reality: the rep is standing, the booth is loud, the next prospect is already waiting. The cards below describe the capture flow and the automation that fires behind it.

Camera to structured fields

OCR plus structured parse on the device.

The rep points the phone camera at the card. Strkr's OCR extracts the text, the structured parser identifies name, title, company, phone, email, LinkedIn, and sorts them into fields. The rep sees the parsed values on a confirmation screen, edits anything the OCR got wrong, and saves. Average scan-to-save time in field testing is 22 seconds for a cleanly readable card.

Live dedupe check

Match against the CRM at the moment of scan.

Before the save completes, Strkr queries the live CRM for name-plus-email match, company-plus-title match, and phone match. If a contact exists, the scanner surfaces the match with the current record and asks update-or-merge-or-create. If no match, the record creates fresh. The rep sees the context (last contact date, current owner, open opportunity) at scan time, which routinely changes the conversation at the booth.

Routing on capture

Owner assignment before the rep leaves the booth.

Strkr applies the standard routing rules (territory, industry, size, round-robin, rep ownership) to each scanned card at the moment of save. The lead already has an owner by the time it lands in the pipeline. If the capturing rep is the right owner by territory, the lead stays with them. If routing points elsewhere, the record transfers with a note crediting the capture rep.

Enrichment at scan

Firmographic data attaches automatically.

Strkr's enrichment pipeline runs on scan. Company size, industry classification, funding stage where available, tech stack signals where available all attach to the record. The rep sees the enriched values on the confirmation screen before saving. The capture that used to be a bare name-plus-title is now a briefed lead with the context the rep needs for the follow-up.

Trigger a sequence

First touch inside the hour, not Thursday.

Each capture can trigger a pre-configured follow-up sequence immediately. Common patterns: a thank-you email with a calendar link within 20 minutes, a next-day call task, a Day-3 LinkedIn connection reminder. The rep configures the sequence per event (CES, SaaStr, HubSpot INBOUND, local meetups) and every card captured at that event enters the right sequence automatically.

Event tagging

Scanned cards tag with the event name and source.

The rep sets the current event (CES 2026, SaaStr Annual, Dreamforce). Every card captured during that event tags with the event name and source attribution. Marketing attribution for the trade show investment is live before the show ends. The CFO who asks "what did we close from Dreamforce last year" gets a cited answer instead of a four-week attribution project.

Offline mode

Scan without wifi on the booth floor.

Trade show booth wifi is unreliable. Strkr's scanner captures locally with on-device OCR and queues the saves for sync when connectivity returns. The rep does not stop scanning because the booth wifi dropped. On sync, the dedupe check and routing apply the moment the device reconnects, so the queued captures do not create duplicates against overnight updates.

Batch mode for post-event

Rapid-fire scan a stack of cards from a jacket pocket.

After the show, reps often have 40 to 120 cards they did not scan in real time. Batch mode cycles through rapid captures with 2-second confirmation per card. The parser handles the structured extraction; the rep confirms. A pile of 60 cards processes in roughly 4 minutes and lands in the pipeline with routing applied, instead of sitting on a desk for 10 days awaiting manual entry.

Audit log + GDPR

Every scanned card logged with consent capture.

For teams scanning cards in GDPR-regulated contexts, Strkr captures a consent flag on the card record with the opt-in copy the rep showed the prospect. The audit log records the scan event with location (if the rep enabled it), the capturing user, and the sequence enrollment. For CAN-SPAM compliance in the US, the same flow applies with the US consent framing. SOC 2 Type II in progress through 2026-Q4.

Why this matters more than a HubSpot add-on

The structural reason the add-on path fails.

The HubSpot business card workflow is not broken because the HubSpot team is lazy. It is broken because card capture needs to be part of the CRM record flow, not a side app that exports. Strkr's architecture makes that integration a first-class feature. Here is what that specifically means.

Live record check

The scanner sees the CRM at scan time.

A third-party scanner app has no idea what is in your CRM. It cannot check for duplicates, it cannot apply routing, it cannot trigger a sequence. The export-import gap is the moment where every automation opportunity gets lost. Strkr's scanner runs inside the CRM app with full access to the live schema, so the capture is already a CRM operation, not a prelude to one.

Flat tier pricing

No scanner subscription on top of the CRM subscription.

A HubSpot team adding CamCard pays per user for the scanner on top of HubSpot. For a 15-rep team scanning cards at 4 trade shows a year, this is 400 to 1,200 dollars a year of parallel subscription with its own data-protection terms. Strkr includes the scanner on the paid tier at no additional charge. One contract, one DPA, one audit log.

Permission inheritance

Scanned leads respect visibility rules.

A rep scanning a card in a shared territory should not accidentally overwrite a teammate's contact. Strkr's scanner runs under the user's claims; the dedupe check surfaces the other owner's record with a transfer-vs-collaborate option, and the audit log captures the handoff. Third-party scanner apps have no notion of CRM-side permissions, which is the source of the "my teammate just stole my lead" complaints.

Strkr AI drafts the follow-up

Email body written with the context from the booth.

After scan, Strkr AI drafts a personalized follow-up email referencing the event, the booth conversation (if the rep logged a short note at scan), the enriched firmographic context, and the recommended next step. The rep reviews, personalizes with a detail, and sends. The follow-up at hour one is a drafted paragraph, not a generic template, which materially changes reply rate.

Event ROI reporting

Trade show pipeline tagged for the attribution report.

Each event has an attribution rollup: cards scanned, leads qualified, meetings booked, opportunities created, closed-won revenue, pipeline velocity vs other sources. The CFO who approves next year's trade show budget gets a cited report instead of an argument. HubSpot can produce this with report-type setup; Strkr ships it as a native view with the event-tag enum pre-wired.

Mobile first

The scanner is the rep's primary mobile surface.

Strkr's mobile app is designed around field rep workflows: scan a card, log a call, update a deal, check a dashboard. The scanner shares the mobile shell with the rest of the CRM, so after scanning the rep can see the full pipeline, run a quick note, or check their next appointment. Third-party scanner apps live in their own silo and force a context switch for every CRM action.

What the scanner does not do

the limits.

A rep considering Strkr for the business card capture problem should know where the product stops. Below is what Strkr's scanner does not handle today, and what we recommend instead when the specialist tool is the right call.

Not full badge scanning

Trade show RFID badges still need the show scanner.

Many trade shows ship RFID-badge scanning hardware (Validar, iCapture) that reads attendee badges and syncs to your CRM post-show. Strkr's scanner reads paper cards, not RFID badges. For an event where the attendee experience is badge-scan, the show scanner is still the right tool and we integrate with the main providers via API or CSV import for the post-show lead delivery.

Not a document scanner

Multi-page documents belong in a document tool.

The scanner is optimized for business cards: single surface, structured text, consistent dimensions. For multi-page agreements, signed contracts, or expense receipts, use a dedicated document scanner (Adobe Scan, Dropbox) and attach the resulting PDF to the CRM record. We are not trying to replace a document capture tool.

OCR limits on specific languages

Non-Latin scripts work; quality lags on hand-written cards.

The OCR handles English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, and Japanese business card formats with strong accuracy. Non-Latin scripts (Chinese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew) work with lower accuracy that improves on each quarterly model update. Hand-written cards (business cards with handwritten notes added) have degraded accuracy; the structured text parse works best on printed cards.

No desktop scanner integration

Hardware desktop card scanners not supported.

Specialty desktop card scanners (CardScan, NeatReceipts) that process stacks via a dedicated hardware feeder are not supported. The use case these solve (post-event batch processing of hundreds of cards at a desk) is handled by the Strkr mobile batch mode, which processes a 100-card stack in roughly 7 minutes. For teams with existing hardware scanner investment, we support CSV import from the hardware output.

HubSpot sync for migrators

If you still run HubSpot for marketing, we sync.

For teams that run Strkr for sales and still use HubSpot for marketing automation, we offer a bidirectional sync so a scanned card lands in Strkr and syncs to HubSpot as a contact in the right marketing list. The sync is API-based with scheduled polling and webhook delivery. For teams fully on Strkr, the sync is unnecessary.

LinkedIn enrichment caveat

LinkedIn public profile is the fallback, not the source.

The scanner does not scrape LinkedIn directly (LinkedIn's terms do not permit it). Strkr's enrichment pipeline uses firmographic providers (ZoomInfo, Clearbit, Apollo via API where the customer has a provider contract) and public web data. For teams relying heavily on LinkedIn enrichment, Strkr integrates with the LinkedIn Sales Navigator for API-based lookups where the customer has the Sales Navigator subscription.

Head-to-head

Strkr native scanner vs HubSpot plus CamCard.

The common HubSpot stack for business cards is HubSpot Sales Hub plus CamCard (or ScanBizCards, Haystack). Here is the head-to-head against that combination.

Feature Strkr HubSpot Sales Hub Pro + CamCard Enterprise
Scanner included in CRM subscription Native on paid tier Separate subscription per user
Dedupe at scan time Live CRM query before save Dedupe post-import; manual review
Routing on capture Owner assigned at scan Routing after bulk import
Enrichment on scan Firmographic data attaches automatically Breeze Intelligence credits meter past floor
Sequence trigger at scan Immediate enrollment per event Workflow trigger post-import
Event tagging Event enum applied at scan Manual tag or import source field
Offline capture On-device OCR; queued sync Varies by scanner app
AI follow-up draft Strkr AI drafts personalized email at hour one Breeze credits per draft
Audit + consent logging Scan event + consent flag captured Varies; data lives in scanner app
Mobile parity with CRM Single mobile app shell Scanner app plus HubSpot app context switch
How teams use Strkr

How field teams run Strkr's scanner today.

The teams that moved off a HubSpot-plus-scanner-app stack to Strkr's native scanner tend to share the same before: cards aged for 10 days on a desk and the trade show ROI story was uncomfortable. The playbooks below are specific motions.

Series B SaaS, 32 reps, 6 shows a year

Trade show time-to-first-touch dropped from 72 hours to under 1.

A 32-rep SaaS team runs 6 trade shows a year with an average of 180 cards captured per show. The old motion: cards sat on desks for 7 to 10 days awaiting manual entry, time-to-first-touch averaged 72 hours, reply rate on the follow-up was roughly 14 percent. After moving to Strkr's scanner with sequence-on-scan, time-to-first-touch at the next CES averaged 42 minutes, reply rate on the Strkr AI drafted follow-up moved to 31 percent, and the pipeline-attributable revenue from CES increased year-over-year by roughly 2.4x on the same show investment.

Agency, 18 account managers, networking-heavy

Networking events feed the referral pipeline same day.

An 18-AM agency does weekly local networking events (chamber, industry meetups, co-working happy hours). Each AM meets 8 to 15 people per event and used to re-enter cards into HubSpot the next morning, which usually turned into "the next week." Strkr's scanner captures at the event with sequence trigger. The AM texts a tailored follow-up from the car park on the drive home, routinely booking a 1:1 inside 24 hours. Referral-sourced new business attributable to networking events grew by roughly 40 percent in the first six months.

Mid-market B2B, 60 reps, 12 shows and conferences

Attribution report settles the trade show budget argument.

A 60-rep mid-market B2B team had the CFO annually questioning the trade show line (roughly 1.1M a year). The attribution report was always late and always disputed. Strkr's event-tag enum applied at scan, with downstream pipeline and closed-won tracked by event, produced a clean dashboard the sales leader and CFO review together each quarter. Two underperforming shows got cut, the budget redeployed to the two shows with strongest attributable pipeline, and the following year's closed-won from the trade show channel grew 28 percent on the same 1.1M spend.

FinServ, 24 wealth advisors, prospect dinners

Consent-logged capture solves the compliance review.

A 24-advisor wealth firm runs quarterly prospect dinners (12 to 20 attendees per dinner) with sensitive compliance requirements on consent capture and record retention. Strkr's scanner captures the consent flag with the opt-in copy, routes to the hosting advisor, and triggers a compliance-approved sequence. The compliance officer's quarterly audit of prospect-dinner capture now runs on the Strkr audit log in 20 minutes instead of a day of email forensics.

High-velocity SMB, 12 reps, strong at networking

Reps scan cards at the gym, not just at trade shows.

A 12-rep SMB team at a local co-working office found reps capturing cards in casual contexts (gym, coffee shops, local events) because the Strkr scanner removed the friction. The informal capture channel added roughly 60 cards a month across the team at near-zero marginal cost. Conversion from informal-capture to meeting was lower than from trade shows (3 percent vs 11 percent) but the raw volume contributed roughly 8 to 12 new meetings a month, which was a real pipeline add for a team that had previously relied heavily on paid-media sourcing.

Common questions

What buyers in this bucket ask most.

Does the scanner work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, both. The Strkr mobile app is native iOS and native Android with the scanner on each platform using the native camera stack. OCR runs on-device for the primary parse (English and the main Western European languages) with a cloud fallback for lower-confidence captures. The user experience is the same on both platforms. Field testing shows no material difference in capture speed or accuracy between the two.

What happens with the physical card photo after scanning?

The captured photo attaches to the contact record as a reference image. The admin can configure retention policy per workspace (keep indefinitely, delete after 90 days, delete after sequence completion). For GDPR-regulated workspaces, the admin typically sets 90-day retention with export-and-delete workflows. The photo is stored under tenant-scoped RLS with audit log coverage; a rep from one territory cannot pull up card photos from another rep's captures.

Can we use the scanner for lead-gen capture at an event where we do not have cards (badges only)?

The paper-card scanner reads cards, not RFID badges. For event badge scanning, Strkr integrates with the major event scanning platforms (Validar, iCapture, Boomset) via API or CSV import. The badge data lands in Strkr with the same event-tag enum, routing, enrichment, and sequence trigger that the paper-card scan uses. The post-event experience is the same regardless of capture mechanism; the difference is only the hardware at the event itself.

How does the scanner handle QR codes on cards?

Many modern business cards carry a QR code that encodes a vCard or a LinkedIn URL. The scanner reads the QR code when present and uses it as a structured source for the parse (which materially improves accuracy, since vCard-encoded data is already structured). For cards with both printed text and a QR code, the scanner cross-references the two and surfaces any conflicts for the rep to resolve. For cards with only a QR code and minimal printed text, the vCard data goes straight to the field map.

What is the migration path for teams moving off HubSpot with CamCard?

The historical card captures in CamCard or similar scanner apps export as CSV. The import workflow lands these as Strkr contacts with the original scan date, event source if captured, and any enriched data preserved. For teams with a long CamCard history (thousands of cards over years), we offer a dedicated migration workstream in the onboarding phase to handle dedupe against the existing Strkr contacts and preserve the event-attribution history. Typical migration timeline for a 15-rep team with 3 years of historical card data is 2 to 3 weeks.

Does the scanner enrichment work in regions without strong firmographic data (small countries, emerging markets)?

Enrichment quality tracks the firmographic data provider coverage. For North America, Western Europe, Australia, and major Asian markets (Japan, Korea, Singapore), coverage is strong. For smaller markets and some emerging regions, enrichment coverage is thinner and the scanner captures what the card provides without the firmographic overlay. The scanner still functions (OCR, structured parse, dedupe, routing, sequence trigger) in every region; only the enrichment overlay has coverage variation. For teams primarily working in regions with thin coverage, the enrichment overlay typically contributes less value and the native scanner workflow still delivers the capture-speed and automation benefits.
